I was home from the tour and my first mission was to meet with Chanel. Thanks to Snapchat, I was able to know that she was home without me even needing to contact her. In order for her to talk to me, I knew I was just going to have to surprise her, so I did.
Thankfully, I was able to make it to her house unrecognized. But my nervousness continued as I waited for her to answer her door. When she did, her response was one I was not expecting, which was to simply close the door in my face. Luckily, I was able to catch it before it fully closed.
“You're not about to ignore me when I'm making the effort to make things right,” I told her. “Also, please let me in. I was able to get here without anyone recognizing me. I'd like to keep being able to stay unnoticeable. You don't want trouble, remember?” She grew softer and let me in.
“Home already?” she asked.
“Don't act like you don't know.”
“I haven't been keeping up with you.”
“Did you forget I have you on Snapchat? You've watched every single one of my stories since everything happened.” She looked embarrassed.
“Can you blame me?” She sat on the counter in her kitchen and dangled her legs. I invited myself to come in between them and hold her waist.
“I don't. I missed you too. I'm sorry I brought you into this weird love triangle, but there's something about me and Selena that you should know.”
“What?” I sighed knowing I was breaking one of Scooter’s biggest rules by telling her the secret.
“Selena and I are not actually together.”
“What do you mean? You are literally in an entire, public relationship with her. You post her on social media, she comes to your concerts, you go to hers, you hang out all the time. How is it that-”
“It's PR, Chanel.” She was dead silent. “A few years ago, Selena and I were two of the most trending celebrities on the rise. Scooter and Selena’s manager thought that by making us a couple, we'd rise quicker and higher, which we did. We were offered more work opportunities and more work equals more money, on top of keeping us both relevant. But it's not a real relationship. It's a publicity stunt.”
“I don't even know what to say.”
“I've been wanting to tell you this since we got close, but I was never allowed to. I'm still not. I broke one of Scooter’s rules by telling you.”
“I'm not going to tell anyone. Maybe Chelsea, but that's because she's my sister. She wouldn't tell anyone either.”
“I know Nelly. I trust you two. But this cannot get out under any circumstances. Promise me that even if our friendship goes to shit, you won't spill.”
“But you and her still…”
“We do because it's convenient. She's only ever been a good friend and my friend with benefits. If we have other friends with benefits, it could mess up the stunt.”
“It would be my fault.”
“It would be mine.”
“Do you want to be part of this publicity stunt?”
“Look at whose arms I'm in. Do you think I do?”
“So then why don't you just tell Scooter and Selena you don't want to do it anymore?”
“I'll receive Scooter’s wrath because the way the media works is that stories saying it's my fault that we broke up would start popping up and I would lose popularity.”
“I'm sorry I underestimated how complicated your life can be.”
“It's okay. You don't know see what happens behind the scenes. You wouldn't be able to know just how complicated things get.”
“Does Selena want to be with you for real?”
“She does. She caught feelings for me over time. But she knows my heart isn't in it.”
“I just don't see her that way. My mind is with Selena, but my heart is here with you.” Chanel opened her arms up from being around my neck and offered me a hug, which I took as a way to slickly go in for the kiss that had been brewing between us for more than a month. She pulled away first and hid her face behind her hands.
“Did you really just do that?”
“I've been wanting to since you let me be your friend. I'm sorry, but I'm not actually in a relationship. So I'm going to hug you and kiss you and be affectionate with you when I can. I'm also trying to work up the courage to tell Scooter I want out of this and put my foot down about it. I want you.”
“And if he says no?”
“I haven't thought that far. I don't want to complicate my mind right now. All I know is that you're the girl I want to be with and I want to make it happen. It will happen. I just need some time to figure this out so that it doesn't take a toll on you. Is that okay?”
“That's okay with me.”
“You're my Pretty Girl, my Nelly, my Chanel, and I want to be yours. Can I be?”
“Behind closed doors?”
“I'll be yours and you'll be mine, in secret. Just for a little while. Please?” She looked uncomfortable. “You don't look okay.”
“It's just… I don't want to be someone's secret. Secrets get messy.”
“I know. I'm sorry that's all I can offer you right now, but I'd like to think it'd be better than not having me at all.”
“So we’ll do this? In secret?” I held out my pinky for her to promise on. She chuckled and promised.
“In secret.” I smiled before wrapping her legs around me and picking her up to carry her. I gave her a tight hug and a kiss on the cheek. It wasn't long before we were interrupted by Chelsea.
“Lord, what did I walk into?” she asked.
“Really quickly, in sum, Selena and I aren't actually a couple. We're PR. I want your sister, so I'm going to have your sister. I'm working on us being able to go public.”
“Rewind. You and Selena aren't a real couple?”
“You're a publicity stunt?”
“Yes. Always have been.”
“No fucking way,” she said in shock.
“It's a secret that I'm not supposed to tell anyone, so please don't let it get out.”
“This is so scandalous.”
“A little trouble might be fun,” I said with a smirk.
“Thoughts, Chanel?” Chelsea asked. Chanel was too busy hugging me the way a koala would hug a tree to respond.
“Chanel,” I said while trying to get her attention.
“I'm enjoying being carried.”
“I think Nelly’s happy,” I told Chelsea.
“Hurt my sister and I'll hurt you, just saying. Proceed.” She walked passed us to get to the fridge.
“Can we go to your room?” I asked Chanel. She undid herself from me and lead the way.
When we got there, she tossed herself on her bed and invited me in with open arms. I put one arm around her and let her cuddle into my chest. While observing her incredibly clean and organized room, I noticed a bouquet of dried up red roses hanging upside down on her wall above her desk. I smiled to myself knowing that was the bouquet I gave her when I serenaded her.
“You kept the flowers,” I said.
“They give my room aesthetic.”
“I would've thought that you would've thrown them out after I made you feel bad.”
“No way. Being your One Less Lonely Girl isn't something that'll happen often.”
“That's cute.” I played with her hair while I spoke.
“So, does this situation mean I’m your secret girlfriend? Or just secret situation?”
“Both sound so terrible. If I'm going to be honest with you, I don't want to give us a title just yet because if you're going to be my girlfriend, I want to be able to be with you freely and publicly to do couple things.”
“Then we're a situation.”
“I'm yours and you're mine,” I said while propping myself up on one elbow.
“I'm sorry if I'm asking too many questions. I just don't usually have secret relationships with celebrities.” He grinned.
“Don't worry. I'm working on it, okay?”
“Okay.” I leaned down and kissed her to relax her, which it did. “It's going to take me some time to get used to kissing you and being all couple-like with you.”
“And it's going to take me a little bit of time to get used to being with you and not Selena. I know her like the back of my hand, but I feel like I've only scratched the surface with you. I want to work on getting to know you as a girlfriend.”
“We’ll get there.” I tried to kiss her again but she stopped me.
“Two more questions.”
“Are you still going to be friends with benefits with Selena?” she asked with a worried and nervous face.
“I don't intend to.”
“You say that like you may slip up and make a mistake.”
“I'm sorry. That was not my intention. I have you now, so I won't jeopardize this.”
“Okay. My last question is, if I don't give you what you want, are you going to go to Selena for it, even though you said you wouldn't?”
“Basically, if you don't want to have sex with me, will I go to Selena for sex.”
“No. We’re going at your pace.”
“Any more questions? Comments? Concerns?” She chuckled.
“Are you STD free?”
“Yes I am, I just got tested last month.”
“Are you good in bed?” This time, she made me laugh.
“I haven't had any bad reviews. I think I know what I'm doing. But if you ever want to find out for yourself, you definitely can.”
“I'll wait a while. I haven't had sex in three years. I'll be losing my virginity again.”
“How did you manage to go three years without sex?”
“I see. Well, if you ever want to, I'm here, and if you don't, I'm still here.” She smiled up at me and I couldn't help but kiss her.
Things felt like they were finally falling into place.
